I remember as a child being afraid when the bats came out. It was time to go in so the bats didn’t swoop down into your hair. I’ve come to realize that, that is just a myth. Bats do swoop, but their mission is to get bugs not hair. We have come to love the bats around our home. Especially knowing that they eat so many bugs! Each bat can eat up to 3,000 mosquitoes a night! We live in the woods and have found bats living in our siding and porches. Our goal is to make a bat house, but as of yet it has not happened. We have been going out and watching the bats come out of a small spot on our deck. We’ve counted up to 28 bats. We plan on covering over the spot eventually, but not until we have the bat house made.

Once they seen that it was dark enough for them they’d drop out and swoop… off to the trees. It would happen quickly so it wasn’t easy to get a decent picture.
